WHAT YOU ARE SEEING
The ground is the Environment Agency 1 m LIDAR terrain model: a 6 m mesh for shape, shaded from the full 1 m data.
As it is today shows only that surface: what survives of the barrows, the Cursus, the Avenue, Durrington Walls, alongside the roads, plantations and Larkhill camp.
As built replaces the ground under every mapped monument with a 2 m surface: the LIDAR with the surviving earthwork smoothed away, and the bank and ditch rebuilt as fresh chalk on the plan Historic England's aerial mapping records. Each period's earthworks appear with its button.
The Middle Bronze Age view picks out the mapped field banks and lynchets on the ground; they are not rebuilt.
Stones, timber posts, the Mesolithic posts, Larkhill causewayed enclosure and West Amesbury henge are placed by hand from published plans; Larkhill and West Amesbury leave nothing in the LIDAR.
The vertical scale is exaggerated so the downland reads. At ×1 it is true to life. Monuments are exaggerated with it.
